Crime Reduction
With effect from 2004 the police have set up a much stronger and positive approach to community policing in areas like ours, with more officers and extra support. This will involve Local Action Teams (LAT's) to enable them to operate with residents and partner agencies to ensure that their work reflects neighbourhood concerns. Furthermore, the police are recruiting Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) who, although not having the full authority and responsibilities of police officers, will still wear uniforms and be able to provide reassurance and support in local communities.

Summary
The parish of Warnham has a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) scheme involving 26 co-ordinators, 22 in and around Warnham village, plus a further 4 in the Kingsfold area.  Co-ordinators act as “Wardens” or “Contact points” for a particular street or area.  In all, there are at present 652 homes in the Warnham and Kingsfold scheme; the term “home” being used, rather than “house”, as one building can, of course, include more than one dwelling.

The main purpose of our NHW scheme is that we should all try to keep an eye on our neighbours’ property when they are away or ill – in our friendly village this is almost automatic.  The scheme also provides a two-way corridor of information whereby members can, either independently or through their co-ordinators, report suspicious persons or incidents to the police; whilst the police, in their turn, can give helpful warnings for co-ordinators to pass on to their members.
